Frequently asked Questions
Why are beeswax candles classed as the “Rolls Royce” of candles?
They are created by the bees, 100% natural and are chemical and pesticide free. In other words, they are CALM (have a beautiful golden glow that is very calming and soothing), CLEAN (non-toxic, non-allergenic and non-carcinogenic, they do not drip and are soot free) and GREEN (Honey bees make beeswax from nectar.)
Are your beeswax candles 100% pure beeswax?
Yes. All of our beeswax candles use 100% pure beeswax gathered locally on the Bellarine Peninsula. We do not mix any other waxes with our beeswax nor do we add any chemicals or preservatives.
What type of wick do you use in your beeswax candles?
All of our beeswax candles use 100% cotton wicks.
Do you add scents to your beeswax candles?
No, we do not add scents to any of our candles. Why spoil the beauty of something so pure and natural. Beeswax releases a sweet, subtle, honey scent as it burns.
Why are beeswax candles different colours?
Beeswax comes in a variety of shades and tones, candle colours may vary for this reason. The beeswax colour will vary depending on the type of nectar source that the bees are gathering.
What is the white “coating” on my candle?
Candles made from 100% pure beeswax develop a white coating known as “bloom”. This powdery coating is a natural property of beeswax. The “bloom” is more pronounced when candles are stored in an area with great changes in temperature. It can be gently wiped off with a soft cloth.
Does beeswax cleanse the air?
Pure beeswax candles are natural air purifiers, emitting negative ions as they burn to actually clean the air! Negative ions clean the air of odours and bacteria, therefore effectively reducing allergies, asthma and hay fever in people.
Why Not Conventional Candles?
Paraffin candles are made with highly refined petroleum by-products. (Paraffin wax is created from the sludge waste when crude oil is refined into gasoline.) Paraffin candles are known to create toxic fumes and soot that can cause respiratory issues and contain chemicals that are carcinogenic. Some of these toxic chemicals are released into the air when the candles are burned. Also, these candles have synthetic, lead or zinc-cored wicks causing even more damage to our health and the environment.
Why not use soy wax?
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made by the full hydrogenation of soybean oil.
All soy products are chemically processed from the oil of genetically modified (GMO) soybeans and the soy crops are often sprayed with toxic pesticides and other chemicals.
There is nothing natural about soy wax and soy candles.
Be careful when buying beeswax candles, candles containing as little as 10% beeswax are sold as “beeswax candles.”
